Hosted Apps Retirement

Currently, cmus.sf.net uses Piwik SF.net hosted app to track visitors.
Soon, SF will shut down all hosted apps, including Piwik. I see 3
choices:

1) Simply abandon any visitor tracking whatsoever
2) Use Google Analytics (or another popular hosted service) — which
some people were opposed to in the past
3) Install Piwik using SF-provided MySQL etc.

Personally, I favor going with the flow and using GA — it does the job
without any pain at all. I don't think maintaining standalone Piwik
installation is a good idea, and I certainly have no skill and no time
to do it. Abandoning statistics altogether does not sound very nice to
me, too.

So, if there are no *strong* objections, I think the way forward is
migrating to GA. I don't want to tie statistics to my personal Google
account — maybe special account can be set up for this. What do you
think?

Gregory

Subject: Hosted Apps Retirement

In case you missed it ...

We wanted to be sure you were aware of some upcoming changes to the
SourceForge project hosting service.

One or more of your projects use the Hosted Apps service. On September 1,
2012, the Hosted Apps service will reach the end of its life and be shut
down. The reasons for this are discussed in the blog post, at
http://sourceforge.net/blog/hosted-apps-retirement/ and in the wiki, at
https://sourceforge.net/p/forge/community-docs/Hosted%20Apps%20Retirement/

Over the coming days, we'll be publishing more documents about how to
migrate your apps to your own project web space, so that none of your data
is lost in this transition. We want to be sure that your project can
continue to operate without interruption, so if you have any concerns,
difficulty with migration, or just want to chat, please send us a note
(***@sourceforge.net).

Please watch the wiki page
(https://sourceforge.net/p/forge/community-docs/Hosted%20Apps%20Retirement/)
for further updates about this process. We'll be back in touch as it gets
closer to the deadline, or if anything about the plan changes.

Thanks again for being part of the SourceForge community.

I personally don't trust google, and make sure to blacklist GA, and I am
sure many others do so too. On the other hand adblock plus makes sure to
disable all trackers anyway, so going with GA or any other wouldn't make
a difference with people using abp, ghostery etc.

That said you should go for the easiest solution which is GA ;)
